Betcha by golly wow - Soul Sister nominated for the Best New Musical at this years Oliver Awards is hot hot hot...

Inspired by the music, life and times of Ike and Tina Turner the story follows the heartbreak and passion, the highs and lows as their marriage crumbled whilst their careers blossomed which resulted in Tina becoming a worldwide global superstar.

During the early years it was tough for black artists to make their mark, Ike said 'our music is too white for blacks and too black for whites'. What I like about this show is that it is based on a true story giving an insight into the history of Tina Turner and what she came through to make it to the top, one gutsy lady.

The star of the show is Jenny Fitzpatrick in the leading role who did a brilliant job recreating those deep raspy vocals and trademark dance moves. Chris Tummings (Ike) is rock solid - a giant within the music industry, her mentor but unable to live with the fame and fortune of TT.

Backed by four fabulous Ikette's as singer/dancers and a terrific six piece band led by musical director Rob Eckland.

Clever use of sliding panels a video imagery produces effective and rapid changes of scenes.

The musical features all of the classic hits including River Deep Mountain High, Proud Mary, Shake A Tail Feather, What's Love Gotta Do With It and finally The Best which simply had the house rocking - a corker of a show.

Soul Sister is currently playing at the Bristol Hippodrome until Saturday, 6th July.
