GLAM Rock and the 70's epitomises T Rex or more to the point Marc Bolan who believed he would be bigger than Elvis, the front man of the band who was tragically killed in a car crash just two weeks before his 30th birthday.

Unlike some jukebox musicals' which generally revolve around the music of a specific era or artist 20th Century Boy has a super script, top cast and is ultimately a great show - how I loved being in my teens during the 70's.

As the story unfolds we learn of the early hippy days, the many changes of image and the discovery of many unknown facts.

Marc Bolan had a phenomenal rise to fame, his story is told through the eyes of his son Rolan (Luke Bailey), former Coronation Street/Brookside actress Mum (Sue Jenkins) whose heartwarming performance was emotional and sensitive. Bolan's life was further complicated by his wife June Child (Lucy Sinclair) and his lover and mother of his child Gloria Jones ( Donna Hines) who both command the stage.

A poignant moment was the beautiful version of 'Teenage Dream' performed by Sue Jenkins, Luke Bailey, Lucy Sinclair and Donna Hines.

Also worth a mention is the performance of Katia Sartini as the exuberant PR Chelita Secunda responsible for Bolan wearing that famous leopard print jacket for his first television appearance and as Helen Shapiro.

Warren Sollars was credible, sincere and vocally sound as Bolan, not just corkscrew hair and platforms - the audience rocked to Get It On, Hot Love, Ride A White Swan, and I Love to Boogie.

20th Century Boy runs until Saturday, 17th May at the Bristol Hippodrome.
