On a barmy hot summer's evening more than 12,000 litres of water were falling on the stage inside the Bristol Hippodrome on the opening night of Singin' in the Rain and for those of you lucky enough to have secured front row tickets you're likely to get wet!
Silent movie stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont's film Duelling Cavalier comes under pressure when the world's first talking movie The Jazz Singer has incredible success -urgent action is required to stop their offering being a flop, cue - time for R F Simpson studio owner, Cosmo Brown and Roscoe Dexter to hatch a plan to keep the fans happy and the cash rolling in... the rest is history.
Dumb blonde Lamont (Vicky Binns) Coronation Street star Molly Compton produces a storming performance as the screeching screen siren and is very funny, she must ultimately end up with a sore throat. Her love rival and voice Kathy Selden (Amy Ellen Richardson) is an out of work actress with a wonderful voice who meets Lockwood by chance and Lockwood (James Leece) certainly knows how to dance having trained at the Royal Ballet School and has a great voice.
The musical features the classic numbers including Singin' in the Rain, Good Morning, You Are My Lucky Star and Make 'em Laugh superbly delivered by Cosmo Brown (Stephane Anelli) who stole the show his complete performance and comic timing was exceptional.
Fabulous 1920's style costumes combined with polished and slick choreography ensure this is a recipe for success.
A hugely talented cast sang, danced and splashed their way through a triumphant production of this iconic musical.
Runs until Saturday, 9th August.
