TOP Hat began life as an RKO Movie starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers during the Great Depression of the 1930's at a time when it gave theatre audiences a little to smile about at a time of austerity. It is the story of Broadway sensation Jerry Travers who travels to London to star in Horace Hardwick's West End show.

A timeless classic by Irving Berlin it stayed true to the original story, a polished performance from the whole cast, superb scenery combined with smooth scene changes made for a wonderful evening.

What a treat! Elegant costumes, great choreography, fabulous performances by Alan Burkin (Jerry Travers) and Charlotte Gooch (Dale Tremont).

The first half was brilliant with all of the tap dancing routines whilst the second half was pure comedy the cast injected so much humour with great timing.

Special mentions for Sebastian Torkia (Alberto Beddini) who put in a truly phenomenal performance he was close to stealing the show in the second half and for Rebecca Thornhill (Madge Hardwick)

The music is legendary Lets Face the Music and Dance, Puttin' On The Ritz, Cheek to Cheek, Top Hat, White Tie and Tails beautifully played by a talented live orchestra led by Musical Director Jae Alexander.

You cannot beat the energy and magic of live theatre!

Top Hat runs until Saturday, 29th November at the Bristol Hippodrome.
