SPIT spot, practically perfect in every way Mary Poppins has been enthralling generation after generation a musical based on the stories of P L Travis and Walt Disney's magical film. In more recent times brought alive on stage by co-creator Cameron Mackintosh and Disney producer Thomas Schumacher.

Enigmatic Mary Poppins arrives at the home of the Bank's family as the children's nanny who has magical powers whisking them away into a world of fantasy and misrule assisted by mystical friends and relations at a time when their anal father a bank manager refuses to spend time with his children or under appreciated wife as his work is more important.

The stunning sets were faultless recreating Mary's magical world as they changed seamlessly from inside the house at 17 Cherry Tree Lane through the fabulous statues in the colourful park to the inside of the grand banking hall and the memorable London chimney capped rooftops.

Zizi Strallen is simply divine as 'MP', just to say she was 'practically perfect' reflecting her impressive cv and the family dynasty that includes sisters Summer and Scarlett and Aunt Bonnie Langford.

Matt Lee as Bert is a complete bundle of energy and joy as he sang, danced and tapped his way throughout the performance a gifted and talented showman just wait until you see his incredible walk - upside down!

On press night Michael and Jane were played by Colby Mulgrew who at 10 years of age already has a list of theatre credits to his name and Ruby McGivern in her first professional performance were both fantastic. There are five sets of children who will be appearing throughout the tour.

I am fortunate to have seen a considerable number of musicals on stage and this is one best - enjoy the classics including A Spoonful of Sugar, Chim Chim Cher-EE, Step In Time and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious there are also a number of new songs to enjoy during the show.

The cast like the very enthusiastic audience had a ball giving 110%, supported brilliantly by a 12 piece orchestra under the direction of Ian Townsend.

The show commenced at 7.30pm finishing just before 10.30pm (including a 20 minute interval) to rapturous applause, whoops of delight and a throughly deserved standing ovation.

As Michael said about Mary 'she might be tricky, but she's bloody good'!

An awesome show.

Runs until Saturday, 28th November at the Bristol Hippodrome.
