TRADITIONAL folk music meets 21st century electric pop as Sam Carter plays Evesham’s Folk in the Foyer, later this month.

A spokesman said: “Since being named Best Newcomer at the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Sam Carter has been stirring audiences from Camden to Canada - appearing on ‘Later... with Jools Holland’, the ‘Andrew Marr Show’ and backing Richard Thompson at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival.

“A highly regarded musician, Sam Carter is described as ‘the finest English-style finger-picking guitarist of his generation’ by Bellowhead’s Jon Boden and ‘one of the most gifted acoustic guitarists of his generation’ by BBC Radio presenter Mike Harding. His guitar and vocal style have been compared to the likes of John Martyn, Roy Harper and Richard Thompson.”

The spokesman added: “Sam has toured with Bellowhead, collaborated with Eliza McCarthy and other musicians from the UK, Canada & Zimbabwe, and released three albums of original music.

“His latest ‘How the City Sings’ features traditional English songs played in a folk-electric style that owes as much to Radiohead as to Fairport Convention.”

This is the latest of Evesham Arts Centre’s Folk in the Foyer concerts, bringing a wide variety of both new and traditional folk music to Evesham. Later concerts are scheduled to feature Steve Tilston, Daria Kulesh and Jonny Dyer and Clive Gregson

The music, on July 26, starts at 8pm. Tickets are on sale from Evesham Almonry, Abbey Road, WR11 4BG 01386 446944, online from eveshamartscentre.co.uk or at the door.
