Jake and Elwood mingled with the audience before the show commenced wearing tops with CREW on their backs handing out leaflets promoting other forthcoming productions – bizarre…

The boys moved on to the stage that initially began with silent comedy and miming which I never quite understood before opening with the classic number Everybody Needs Somebody To Love supported by three girl soul singers The Bluettes and a seven piece musically strong blues band.

Jake (Brad Henshaw) originally played by John Belushi not only stars in this show is also co producer and director. His brother Elwood (Daniel Fletcher) fills the shoes of Dan Aykroyd.

Throughout this entire show which rocks at a manic pace the brothers have incredible stamina as they belt out tune after tune at record speed whilst enthusiastically and energetically dancing and leaping around in typical blues brothers style – both have good vocals.

Shake A Tail Feather, Gimme Some Loving and Soul Man all got the audience singing along, my personal favourite was their rendition of Under the Boardwalk which was very atmospheric in the dimmed lighting supported by sweet harmonies from the Bluettes.

More than a few members of the audience (boys and girls) resembled the BB wearing the trademark porkpie hats and dark shades some wearing black suits and ties.

Judging by the reaction of the audience at the end of the show they clearly enjoyed this tribute to the Blues Brothers that runs until Saturday, 11th June at the Bristol Hippodrome.
