HAVING seen the much acclaimed musical Jersey Boys in Canada three years ago, I was determined to see a production of Big Girls Don’t Cry - an opening event in this year’s Worcester Live Festival at the Swan Theatre.

The show pays tribute to the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons with most of the hit songs that made the group famous in the 60s.

Created by producer Jack Applebaum and starring Damion Scarcella as Frankie and Joseph Connell, Adam Dougal and Stuart Innis as the other members of the group, this is the second successful year that the show has toured Britain.

Unlike Jersey Boys, most of the group’s repertoire was included in this concert - Big Girls Don’t Cry, Let’s Hang On, Rag Doll, Walk Like A Man, Sherry and Grease - these old classics had shivers running up your spine as the superb vocals and great backing group crackled with energy and helped to make the theatre shake.

This was two hours of superb music, the nearest you could get to the actual Jersey Boys.

The show was full of quality and high octane excitement from beginning to end, with Damion Scarcella’s incredible falsetto range as good as Valli’s.

At the end, the audience was full of people waving their arms and dancing in the aisles.

A terrific show, a packed house and a great night out should ensure that Big Girls Don’t Cry returns to Worcester Live next year.
