THE sky's ever-changing colour and movement provided an endless source of inspiration and ideas to an artist displaying her work Artrix Arts Centre, Bromsgrove.

Pershore artist Miriam Meek's captivating Looking Up exhibition is an enchanting collection of abstract sky-scapes.

Miriam had a love for painting and drawing throughout childhood, and as a self taught artist has devoted more time to developing her style of painting since her youngest child started school.

Working abstractly, the paintings gain depth through layers of paint and texture is introduced through the use of a palette knife.

As the paintings evolve, Miriam works with translucent mediums to accentuate the light.

TC Peppercorn, gallery curator, said: "I was captivated by Miriam’s work the moment I saw it.

"She uses a soft palette of pastel shades with occasional bold highlights which are evocative of sky and seascapes.

"They are almost dream-like and really draw the viewer in to look more closely at the intriguing textures."

Pupils from Meadows First School in Bromsgrove will be visiting the exhibition later in the month as part of their Arts Week and trying their hand at creating some sky paintings when they return to class.

Looking Up is at Artrix until Sunday, October 26.

Admission is from 10am until late is free.
