PLÁCIDO Domingo returns to give his first London performances for I Due Foscari - and people can watch from the comfort of Pershore's Number 8.

The Spanish tenor and conductor can be watched performing live from the Royal Opera House, London via satellite on Monday, October 27.

The 73-year-old performs the major Verdi baritone role in I Due Foscari which is based on a play by Byron.

Set in 15th-century Venice, the two Foscari of the title are the city’s Doge, Francesco Foscari (sung by Domingo) and his son, Jacopo (Francesco Meli), who has been brought back from exile to face charges of treason.

This taut, sombre drama provides the basis for one of Verdi’s most arresting early scores, not heard at the Royal Opera House since 1995.

Newly presented in an acclaimed staging by the American director Thaddeus Strassberger.

It will be sung in Italian with English surtitles.

The screening begins at 7.15pm and tickets, costing £14, are available by calling 01386 555488 or logging on to number8.org.
