COMEDY fans can expect a night of rants, anecdotes and audience interaction when Hal Cruttenden brings his hilarious Tough Luvvie tour to Worcester next month.

The TV funny man, who has appeared on Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week, will play at Huntingdon Hall on Friday, November 14, at 8pm.

I watched him play at the Bewdley Festival last week and the self-proclaimed camp comedian was on top form, reducing the room to fits of out-loud laughter with his gag-heavy performance.

He sized up the crowd quickly, mocking it for consisting solely of old, white, middle-class people, and proceeded to poke fun – in a light-hearted way - at a couple of unfortunate audience members.

It was these off-the-cuff interactions that stole the show and I found myself willing him to engage with more members of the public – as long as it wasn’t me.

The pre-prepared jokes and stories did not disappoint either.

Some old favourites from his television routines – such as the direct debit for a school bully gag and the depressed football fan chants – were real crowd pleasers while new observational material exploring everyday life, family and politics hit the mark.

For me a lot of the anecdotes were funny because I could relate to them and it was his rant about peoples’ self-indulgent social media posts – something I see all-too-often in my Facebook news feed – that had me in stitches.

The show is called Tough Luvvie because of the two-sides of Hal’s character – on first impression a love-able softie but if messed with a tough cookie. But it was far from a tough watch and, in fact, I loved the show.

Tickets, which cost £17, can be purchased from Worcester Live at worcesterlive.co.uk
