THERE will be thrills and chills for movie buffs who can enjoy a selection of silent horror short films.

The shorts are all from the dawn of the 20th century and will be accompanied by brand new music scores especially commissioned by the Abertoir Horror Festival, composed and performed by Paul Shallcross.

The first ever film version of Mary Shelley’s classic Frankenstein is set to be shown featuring a terrifying creation scene that still astounds today.

La Légende du Fantome is a psychedelic cacophony of arresting visuals, human lizards, grim reapers, demons and ghosts, all joined together by a demon’s chariot.

Le Spectre Rouge features a demonic magician performing a magic show in the depths of hell with ground breaking special effects including miniature women in glass bottles.

It is an early example of a “trick” film.

The evening finishes with The Jest, the most modern of the films, a story of an old man longing for the return of his wife.

They will be screened in the Studio Theatre at Hereford's The Courtyard on Tuesday, October 28 at 8.30pm.
