YOUNG actors transformed themselves into the Mad Hatter and the Queen out of Alice in Wonderland, Simba from the Lion King and Maleficent during a colourful workshop.

Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section (WODYS) took part in the Fantasy and Fairytale workshop to learning how to make themselves up for such characters.

Judy Hooper, make up co-ordinator at WODYS, and other members of the WODYS’ make-up team, helped the children, aged eight to 18, who had a great time making each other look like everything from Avatar to The Joker, super villain and arch-enemy of Batman.

During the pre-Christmas months WODYS, runs a series of workshops on subjects ranging from dance, drama and singing, to make-up and backstage duties.

Mrs Hooper said: “With Fantasy and Fairytale the children were thinking about good and evil and what colours and shapes to apply for their characters, such as dark for evil and lighter for good.

"The youngsters were able to experiment and be creative with their ideas."

The children will be preparing to audition for the company's 2015 musical Annie, on at the Swan Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, August 4 to 8 next year. For early booking contact WODYS business manager David Skelton on 01905 423809.
