A GRIPPING hour by hour retelling of the day the Houses of Parliament caught fire will take place at Evesham Arts Centre.

Author Caroline Shenton will be talking about the evening of October 16, 1834 when the roof of the Houses of Parliament caught fire.

The blaze was so huge it was visible from Windsor Castle and stagecoaches on the South Downs.

The author, who is a specialist in the history, art and architecture of Parliament, will take her audience through the gripping hour-by-hour story of the fire, its devastating aftermath and far-reaching consequences.

Evesham Decorative and Fine Arts Society has organised the illustrative talk on Wednesday, January 14 at 8pm.

Tickets for non-members cost £5 and are available on 01386 446944 or online at eveshamartscentre.co.uk.
