THOUSANDS of people have already passed through the doors to see an exhibition which explores World War One through the eyes of Worcestershire's soldiers.

Personal diaries, intimate letters and unusual objects have been on display at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, Foregate Street, since October.

And people still have time to catch the moving exhibition before it closes on Saturday, March 14.

World War One in the Words of Worcestershire is part of the Worcestershire World War One Hundred project and funded through Heritage Lottery Fund. Worcestershire World War One Hundred is one of the largest programme of events across England commemorating the First World War.

First-hand accounts from the front line can be read in diaries kept by soldiers as well as cherished letters telling of a soldier’s bravery and bringing comfort to the families of the deceased who remained at home waiting for news.

Worcestershire artefacts that have been loaned to the exhibition include the silver mounted hooves of Jerry, a German horse rescued at the Western Front by the Worcester Regiment, who lived out his life giving rides to local children off Pitchcroft.

The exhibition is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
