IT WAS a chilly day beside the river Severn at Pitchcroft that brave members of an amateur company decided to film scenes for their upcoming production.

Despite the cold, members of The Swan Theatre Amateur Company (STAC) managed to film the boating scene from Brief Encounter.

The play, set in the 1930s, is based on the famous film and Noel Coward’s earlier play Still Life.

It follows the poignant love affair that develops between Laura Jesson and Dr Alec Harvey from their first meeting at a railway station buffet when he removes a piece of grit from her eye.

It will be performed at The Swan Theatre from Tuesday, February 10 to Saturday, February 14 – the perfect date to end such a romantic play.

Director, Janet Bright, said: “I fear if Alec and Laura had met on the riverbank on the day we filmed it would have been a very brief encounter indeed.

"Luckily for us, we managed to get some great shots for one of the filmed sequences we’re using in our production before we all froze.

"It’s been a challenge to combine the live action and multi media aspects, but I feel we’ve created a great tribute to the original film and the music of Noel Coward.”

Local film maker, George Thompson, who is more accustomed to shooting wedding and promotional films, took a day out to provide his professional expertise and give the actors guidance on the techniques of acting for film.

Tickets are priced at £8 for the first night and £10 and are available on 01905 611427.

They are also available at the Swan Theatre for 45 minutes before the start of each performance, for that performance only.

Shows are at 7.30pm.
