WE may only be one year into 2015 but it is already turning into an incredible year for one teenage actress.

Cerys Jones, aged 19, is set to play Maria twice - two different Maria's in two different musicals.

And she has just been accepted by the acclaimed Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to study musical theatre.

Cerys, of Broadwas, near Worcester, thought she was lucky when she landed the part of Maria in Rogers and Hammerstein's popular musical the Sound of Music being staged by the Theatre Factory at the Norbury Theatre, Droitwich, next month.

Then she put in for the part of Maria in West Side Story being performed by WODS, Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society, at the Swan Theatre, Worcester, from Tuesday to Saturday, April 21 to 25.

She said: "I was not expecting to get it and I was just stunned when I learned I had.

"It's a really vocally challenging role, but it's wonderful.

"Now I have a place on the musical theatre degree course at the Conservatoire of Scotland and I go to Glasgow in September.

"It's just amazing."

She is also in Brief Encounter at The Swan Theatre in February.

The actress joined Worcester's Star Stage School of Dancing at the age of two and at high school was the Killer Queen when Christopher Whitehead Language College performed We Will Rock You.

She has also obtained a level three Btec in performing arts at Worcester College of Technology and obtained two diplomas in musical theatre singing with the London College of Music.

She said: "I would not have half the confidence I have if it had not been for my very first singing teacher Jane Whittle.

"She runs the Film Orchestra and I am singing Skyfall with them at the Swan Theatre in May."

Cerys was a member of WODYS for seven years, taking the lead role in Half a Sixpence and has been in WODS, the parent company for four years, appearing in Summer Holiday and Mack and Mabel.

There's no chance of bubbly, 5ft 2ins Cerys getting the two Maria's confused as the parts are totally different - different hair, voice and personality, but it does mean a lot of lines to learn and a lot of rehearsals to attend.

She said: "I love the Puerto Rican Maria in West Side Story and then I change completely for the Hills Are Alive and the posh Maria."
