ONE of the world’s best-known musicals is being performed at a Worcestershire school this week.

The pupils of Abberley Hall School at Great Witley are starring in their own spectacular version of the award-winning show Oliver! based on the Dickens novel Oliver Twist.

Victoria Beswick, head of marketing at Abberley Hall, said everyone was looking forward to the production which features music and lyrics by Lionel Bart.

“Oliver! Is something of a masterpiece and we have worked very hard to make our version of this show very special,” she said.

“The opening act, which includes the classic song Food Glorious Food, will set the scene for a wonderful evening of entertainment."

Mrs Beswick said that all 12 and 13-year-old pupils at the school were either performing on stage or working as part of the front of house, sound or lighting teams.

“It should be an excellent production and the children and staff have worked exceptionally hard to make it a success

“They have been rehearsing for several months and they are putting on a great production with very authentic-looking costumes, make-up and scenery. We are expecting full houses for all the shows,” she added.

The musical is staged in the school’s Ashton Hall Theatre until Saturday evening (March 21).
