TO celebrate its first decade of the Artrix in Bromsgrove a new exhibition in the theatre's gallery charts the history of the venue right up to the present day.

It tells the story of how Artrix came about after local arts groups lobbied for an arts centre in Bromsgrove for years before the centre was officially opened by the Duke of Gloucester on April 7, 2005.

Ten Years of Artrix 2005-2015 opened on Monday and will be running at the theatre until Monday, April 27.

The collection will be shown again at Bromsgrove Library during the summer and includes original architects plans and drawings as well as images of various events which have taken place at the centre during the last ten years.

A spokesman for Artrix said: "This exhibition gives a fascinating insight into the early days of Artrix and illustrates how indebted we are to our supporters, founder director, volunteers and staff who worked so hard to help it become the success story it is today."

The Artrix’s official tenth birthday celebrations will take place on Saturday (April 25).

They include free dance performances by Heart of Worcestershire College students on Bromsgrove High Street during the afternoon, a community lantern procession at 8.30pm and an outdoor theatre performance and fireworks on the Artrix terrace at 9pm.
