WITH grey skies and rain clouds gathering above Bromsgrove, the show had to go on for performers from Heart of Worcestershire College and Motionhouse.

Spirits remained high for dance performers despite Saturday's miserable weather as they took to the streets with their performance which coincided with the opening weekend of the Bromsgrove Festival.

BTEC students performed on Bromsgrove High Street at lunchtime on Saturday following a residency at Artrix with national dance theatre company Motionhouse.

The students performed their own interpretation of Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem The Panther which describes a captive panther behind bars.

During the late afternoon and early evening at Artrix, Motionhouse performed Captive which is inspired by the same poem.

Captive is performed by four dancers in a large cage and was an incredible sight as the four performers wove themselves in and through the bars, at one point forming a human chain with one dancer suspended from the top of the cage and the other dangling underneath.

A spokesman for Artrix said: "Full credit should be given to the HoW College students who braved the rain and performed brilliantly on the High Street on Saturday.

"It was a real privilege to have Motionhouse perform here during our tenth anniversary year and a wonderful experience for the students."
