SELF-TAUGHT South Africa artist Nathan Lottering has always dreamed of exhibiting in the UK with the lifelong desire to see his artwork in “everyone’s home”.

Now this dream moves one step closer to reality thanks to the help of Evesham Arts Centre. Nathan’s cousin Laura Roberts and family friend Donald Cook, along with arts centre exhibition volunteers Kitty Kovacevic and Beth Pope have been working together to organise the artists first UK exhibition, Pictures of Africa, that opened earlier in the month on the Arts Centre’s Longwall & Barside space, and will run until February 29.

A spokesman said: "Creativity runs in Nathan’s family and he has always held a passion for art, despite never having an opportunity to study formally. Nevertheless he has felt compelled to keep making work, exploring all mediums from watercolours to oils and trying his hand at almost everything.

"This latest collection utilises the traditional practice of Pyrography or Pokerwork, a medium that dates back to prehistory and involves burning a picture into wood.

"Nathan created the 13 pieces on display working from the corner of his busy flat, a hub of activity, visited by his curious children and grandchildren. His work encapsulates the landscape and wildlife around him and he is thrilled to be sharing his artwork with a new audience in the UK.

Pictures of Africa is open for viewing on show nights, for times and dates and more about upcoming exhibitions check the website www.eveshamartscentre.co.uk/exhibitions
