A BIG Bach treat is on the way for an audience at Malvern Theatres.

International soprano, Gillian Keith and The Armonico Consort will perform "Music for Weddings", as part of the Big Bach Project, at Malvern Theatres, on Saturday, March 19, from 7.45pm.

One of the highlights will be a performance of Bach's Wedding Cantata.

A spokesman said: "An evening of the sublime music of Bach is in store for audiences at Malvern Theatres when internationally-renowned singer, Gillian Keith performs some of the composer’s beautiful cantatas for solo soprano.

"She will join Christopher Monks directing the critically-acclaimed baroque ensemble Armonico Consort whose musicians play on instruments of the period, giving a particularly special insight into Bach’s music."

Bach was a prolific writer of Cantatas, over 200 of which survive today.

Gillian Keith said: “Among Bach’s hundreds of cantatas, he wrote nine very special ones, for solo soprano – each one is a masterpiece of harmony, form and invention.”

The concert features one of the best-loved church cantatas, ‘Ich habe genug’ (I am content) as well as two which were written for weddings, including movements from the famous ‘Wedding Cantata’.

Gillian added: “It has been suggested, Bach wrote it for his own wedding and that his bride, Anna Magdalena, would have performed it in the ceremony.”

Alongside the concert tour, Gillian Keith and Armonico Consort plan to turn a dream into reality, by recording all nine of Bach’s Cantatas for solo soprano as a set, for the very first time.

This is part the Big Bach Project.

A crowd-funded Kickstarter campaign is raising funds to record the first of three discs in The Big Bach Project and Gillian encourages audiences to “catch the spirit by taking part”.

Updates, VIP receptions and even the chance to sit in on a recording session are some of the rewards being offered to supporters depending on the level of giving.
