THE funny side of sport will entertain an audience at Malvern Theatres, with anecdotes from sporting heroes who really know what they are talking about.

Sporting Legends will be hosted by Gary Newbon and features former England goal keeper, Peter Shilton and another “national treasure”, commentator John ‘Motty’ Motson.

A spokesman said: "They will be joined on stage by Kevin Connolly, the UK’s number one sports impressionist and star of TV and Radio’s, Dead Ringers.

"Peter Shilton (OBE) is one of the World’s most famous goalkeepers and England’s most capped footballer with 125 appearances and among the many honours which he proudly possesses are two European Cup winner’s medals. Peter played an extraordinary 1300 competitive matches."

The spokesman added: "John ‘Motty’ Motson (OBE), has been on our screens and radio as a legendary BBC football commentator since 1971. He has commentated on over 1500 matches for television and radio, including numerous FA Cup and World Cup finals and was recently voted the UK’s best soccer commentator of all time."

Gary Newbon has been a TV Sports presenter both with ITV and Sky Sports for four decades, covering seven World football Cup finals and has literally conducted over a thousand interviews, many of which feature on Sky’s Sporting Heroes.

The spokesman said: "He is viewed by many as the UK’s premier sports interviewer.

"And Kevin Connelly is the nation’s number one sports impressionist and best known for his role on the BBC Television and Radio series, Dead Ringers. He has audiences rocking with laughter at his impressions which range from Motty to Geoffrey Boycott to Brian Clough, David Beckham and in the political arena to the likes of Nigel Farage."

Sporting Legends will be appearing at Malvern Theatres on Thursday September 8.
