ARTISTS in and around the Vale of Evesham are opening their doors to the public this August bank holiday weekend, for the second Worcestershire Open Studios.

From Friday August 26 to Monday August 29, the public will be invited into artists’ studios, homes and shared spaces "to see a wide range of art and craft created in Worcestershire".

A spokesman said: "Painting, printmaking, glasswork, photography, pottery, jewellery and textiles will all be featured. Visitors will have a chance to talk to artists about the inspiration behind their creations and watch some of them at work.

"Across the county, over 100 artists are taking part at 45 different venues".

Ian Gibson and Gloria Norman have teamed up to open one of 12 venues across the Wychavon district.

The spokesman said: "Their exhibition in Badsey includes Gloria’s quirky birds, colourful bowls and jugs in high-fired stoneware and paintings and prints by Ian, who uses familiar landscape and architecture to conjure up unexpected compositions.

"And at Offenham’s Art Pad, a myriad of colour and texture in beautiful glass work awaits."

The Art Pad’s Wendy Stafford said: “I love the buzz of meeting new people and greeting old friends and people that have been before. I am passionate about my glass and love sharing it with everyone that visits.”

Visitors to Birlingham’s Tigley Textiles will see "illustrative, quirky and nostalgic textile pieces", made by Julie Brand and there will be demonstrations of various textile techniques.

A fusion of colour, rhythm and texture will be on offer at Claudia Wiegand’s Pinvin studio.

Claudia "loves experimenting with new techniques and materials to create covetable fused glass artwork, home accessories and gifts".

Notable landscape and watercolourist, John R Harris, will be opening his Inkberrow home.

John is known for his atmospheric landscapes and regularly exhibits in several UK galleries, and further afield in South Africa, Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

Artist Sally-Anne Morgan, who is one of the event organisers, said: “Worcestershire Open Studios is a great opportunity to meet local artists and see a wide range of the fantastic artistic talent right here in our county. Whether you’re an art lover or have never set foot in a gallery, you’ll receive a warm welcome.”
