THE 300th anniversary of the birth of the landscape designer, Lancelot "Capability" Brown will be celebrated with a new embroidery exhibition at the Artrix Gallery in Bromsgrove.

The works have all been produced using textile art techniques including embroidery, felting, dyeing and weaving.

A spokesman said: "Many works show exquisitely created scenes of the classic English landscapes that Capability Brown designed for stately homes and there are also several abstract pieces which draw on the colours and textures of the landscape."

TC Peppercorn, the Artrix Exhibitions Co-Ordinator added: “This is a wonderful exhibition to explore. The works are so intricate and with some it’s hard to believe they are made from fabric and thread. I’d urge anyone to come and take a look: you will be amazed.”

Members of the the Embroiderers’ Guild, the group behind the exhibition, believe that "textiles are as relevant today as they have always been", and they hope the exhibition will win new converts

Artrix is also showcasing the work of Avoncroft Young Embroiderers in its Vestibule Gallery on the top floor. The Young Embroiderers will be hosting an open ‘Stitch-In’ from 10am in Artrix Foyer on Saturday September 17, and everyone is welcome to join them "to have a go at sewing and to create an Autumn leaf for their fabric tree".

Both exhibitions are open Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm until September 25 and admission to Artrix Gallery is free.
