AN AMERICAN artist living in Newent recently held an exhibition in his adopted home town.

The exhibition by artist Kip Kavallares at the Art Gallery, in Newent's Shambles, followed on from another successful exhibition, last year, at Gloucester's Guildhall.

And now Mr Kavallares is looking forward to another two exhibitions.

Next year, his work will return to Gloucester's Guildhall and it will also get an airing at Abergavenny's Chapel Cottage Studios.

Mr Kavallares, who is American but was actually born in London, said: "I am an artist working in a variety of styles including landscapes, still life, figurative and wildlife however my personal preference is for abstract and expressive works.

"My exhibition in Newent was entitled 'Two Sides' as this represented the two types of work that interest me most. I felt those works in my exhibition showed this very well. I do however still have an interest in all genres”.

Mr Kavallares has lived in Newent for more than twenty years, and though he studied at the Cheltenham School of Fine Art he prides himself on being essentially self taught.

Earlier this year he was invited to submit some paintings into the American Arts Awards and received two certificates for two of his paintings. One called “Sardines” was Impressionism in Still Life and the second was “From the Shadows” in the style of Erotic Female (figurative).

He said: "These two paintings can be seen on the American Arts Awards website and this means they will be seen all across America, though unfortunately they have both already been sold!"
