A ROALD Dahl favourite is set to entertain young and old alike at The Coach House Theatre, in Malvern.

And the show, Danny the Champion of the World, will include "a host of local youngsters", as part of the cast.

A spokesman said: "The focus is on nine year old Danny, who lives happily in a caravan with his father.

"The play shows how Danny’s world is turned upside-down when he learns that his father poaches pheasants from the estate of the nasty, greedy Victor Hazell. One night his father doesn't return from a poaching run and Danny fears the worst."

The spokesman added: "Danny sets off on a courageous journey to find his father and, with a little help from the village, soon finds himself masterminding an incredible and exciting plot against the villainous Victor Hazell.

"Laughter, drama and audience participation abound in this production by The Malvern Theatre Players."

Adapted by David Wood from Roald Dahl’s book, the play was first performed at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, in 2004.

Danny the Champion of the World opens at The Coach House Theatre Grange Road, Malvern on December 12.

Evening performances are at 7pm on Monday December 12 to Saturday December 17 and from Thursday December 29 to Friday December 30.
