A SHOW about the cuckoo will remind audiences at Ledbury's Market Theatre that it's finally spring.

A spokesman said: "In their new show, Gone Cuckoo, storyteller Malcolm Green and musician Joshua Green will follow the trail of the cuckoo to explore the fascinating world of this extraordinary creature through stories, music and song."

And the show will reveal how science is revealing more about this feathered harbinger of a new season.

The spokesman said: "It’s shortly after dawn at RAF Fylingdales on the North York Moors and a male cuckoo is having a tiny 4.5g radio transmitter strapped to his back. A few weeks later he will have flown thousands of miles south and 5km up over the Sahara Desert, sending signals back to England as he travels through Libya and Chad to the Congo."

But the show comes with a stark warning too.

The spokesman said: "For thousands of years the cuckoo has been part of folklore and its call present in songs, poems and stories. But now this bird is disappearing from England and we may soon stop hearing that iconic ‘cuck-coo’."

The date for the diary is May 6, at 8pm.
