WORCESTER CITY Art Gallery and Museum has unveiled what it is calling "a fantastic programme" for 2017.

This year the Gallery is celebrating a partnership with the British Museum "to bring the best of the nation's art to the city, including outstanding artworks by Constable, JMW Turner and the superstar of Pop Art, Andy Warhol".

The spokesman added: "Saturday February 11 sees the start of the exhibition, David Cox and his Contemporaries. Celebrating the life and work of one of the West Midland's greatest painters, the exhibition features the museum's wonderful and rarely seen collection of paintings by David Cox.

"To complement the exhibition the gallery is also pleased to announce incredible loans of work from the British Museum by Constable and Turner, making this a spring exhibition not to be missed."

Maria Bojanowska, Head of National Programmes at the British Museum added: "The British Museum is delighted to be partnering with Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum in 2017. The loan of key works to David Cox and his Contemporaries and our new touring exhibition Warhol to Walker: American prints from pop art to today continue our commitment to share our collection as widely as possible across the UK. I look forward to visitors in Worcester enjoying these shows".

The summer show promises lots of family fun as ever.

The Celebrity exhibition is a collection of costumes and props from the small and big screen, and the show includes Marilyn Monroe's little black dress, Fred Astaire's shoes and a Michael Jackson "Dangerous" tour jacket.

Visitors can even dress up as their favourite screen star, immortalise themselves at the #selfiespot and play their favourite tracks on the jukebox.

Celebrity opens on June 17 and will be on throughout the summer holidays.

Later in the year the gallery welcomes a touring exhibition from the British Museum: Warhol to Walker; American Prints from Pop Art to Today.

Part of the British Museum's Spotlight Tour, the show includes work by Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Jim Dine. Alongside these works will be a series of late 1960s prints by Eduardo Paolozzi from the Worcester City Museum collection.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, Chairman of the Joint Museums Committee and County Council Cabinet Member for Localism and Communities said: "We are very pleased to bring world-class art to Worcester throughout 2017. The partnership with the British Museum is truly exciting and we should relish the fact that these incredible works of art will be on show on our doorstep. We look forward to welcoming visitors old and new to enjoy the exhibitions, events and permanent displays."

Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum is open Monday to Saturday, 10.30am to 4.30pm, and entry is free.
