FANTASTIC music, dancing and colourful costumes - the Midland Musical Theatre Group’s annual spectacular has arrived.

Being staged at Malvern’s Festival Theatre for the last time before a switch to Worcester’s Swan next November, the 33rd running of this pre-Christmas extravaganza is in full swing.

Full of energy from start to finish, the Magic of the Music, produced by Sue Wilson and Aileen Haden, is chock full of toe-tapping numbers, taking in styles such as big band, latin and songs from the shows.

Among the highlights from the show, which this year is raising money for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, were selections from Les Miserables, Bollywood and Take That.

There was an excellent rendition of Bring Him Home by James Sinclair and other fine solos from Sara Tudman, Andy Skelton, Ken Knight and Cherril Watkins.

As ever, the Harelquin Dancers, tightly choreographed by Paula Dymock, were superb with several displays, including an adaption of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik that brought the house down.

The costume department was also in over-drive with many of the cast having in the region of nine changes to make throughout.

Following a Christmas medley finale, group president Robert Wilson MBE made an impromptu appearance on stage to the thank the audience for their support.

The only disappointing element was comedian Barry North whose sexually-orientated gags were totally out of keeping with what is essentially a family show.

The Magic of Music runs at the theatre tonight, tomorrow and twice on Saturday. Shows start at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday.

Tickets cost £14, available on 01684 892277, or online at malvern-theatre.co.uk.
