PUPILS, parents and staff at Leigh and Bransford Primary School, Worcester, are celebrating an outstanding inspection result.

Each area of the Ofsted inspection was given the highest grading achievable.

The inspectors - from the Government's Office for Standards in Education - looked at all aspects of school life and interviewed pupils, the school council and all members of staff. They also observed lessons being taught to all pupils and scrutinised their books to check the standards of their work.

The report states: "This is an outstanding school in which pupils' achievement is excellent. The main reasons for this success are consistently outstanding teaching and an exciting curriculum, enabled by leadership and management which has unusual strength in depth for such a small school." The report goes on to point out that pupils at Leigh and Bransford receive the best possible start to their educational careers: "The foundation stage is outstanding," the inspectors said. "Arrangements for children to start school are excellent and forge a partnership with parents that continues throughout the school." The inspectors said standards in national tests were well above average and they were also impressed with the care, guidance and support that pupils receive.

"Parents value the knowledge individual staff have of their children, which leads to excellent care," the report states. "Particular attention is given to pupils' safety in the many physical and outdoor activities they pursue."

Headteacher Stuart Bill said he was delighted with the report. "We are all absolutely delighted with this report - it's a great team result where everyone's efforts have been recognised," he said. "We are very fortunate here because we have a lot of positives going for us - fantastic pupils, supportive parents, a hard-working set of governors - all topped off by a very talented team of staff."
