Collection confusion means more rubbish

RUBBISH will be left to pile up after bins were not left out for the binmen on Good Friday because residents did not know they would be working says an angry councillor.
Warndon Parish councillor Dan Robb was one of the people in Warndon Villages who did not put their bin out on Good Friday because he expected that the binmen would not be working.
Coun Robb said Worcester City Council needed to talk closely with residents so they were aware of when collections were during public holidays and so binmen did not face a rubbish backlog.
Binmen empty 42,000 bins over four days in Worcester and the next fortnightly collection of rubbish is due in Warndon Villages on Friday, April 4.
Coun Robb said: "The council is not getting the information to people. It's no good sitting in their offices - the people in charge need to have a chat with the binmen. We're now going to have a double load which is making more work for them. They have got to sort this out."
But Mike Harrison, head of cleaner and greener for Worcester City Council, said details of the bin collection dates over the Easter period had been published in City Life which was delivered to 40,000 households across Worcester.
Mr Harrison also said he had let the clerk of Warndon Parish Council know the dates of the Easter collection.
Mr Harrison said: "I wasn't aware there were any problems. But if people are not certain when their bins are due to be collected they should ask. Don't assume. The rubbish has been collected on Good Friday for years. I know it has been like that since at least 1988. As far as I know we have always done collections on Good Friday. Nothing has changed."
Les Bishop, clerk of Warndon Parish Council, said he did not have the information about bin collection dates over Easter in time for the most recent parish newsletter.
However, he said he had been assured that the Christmas times would be provided by the city council in time to let residents know in the Christmas newsletter.
He said: "I don't see what else the city council can do. I can't see them publishing letters from a financial point of view. It costs us enough money to publish the parish newsletter."

Thank goodness he doesn't represent me

I am not a great fan of the Council, but - when there is to be a change in the days or times of collections we have had plenty of notice. We can probably judge the calibre of our Councillors by Mr. Robb - clueless.Information was not required, or does Mr. Robb expect a personal letter every week to tell him his bin will be collected?

Mr Robb has jumped on a very popular bandwagon. But this bandwagon is fast running out of steam. I cannot believe that after all the commotion and publicity at Christmas over exactly the same problem that anyone with half a grain of commonsense wouldn't stop and [bold]THINK[/bold] that maybe they should check if they weren't sure about collections! Of course it was publicised - and I make the same comment that I made at Christmas - [bold]THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR REGARDLESS OF WHEELIE BINS[/bold]. When will people learn to think for themselves? I would be very interested to know if Mr Robb put his bin out or not - maybe that's the real reason behind his protests???

Though i've been critical about our council's previously, the easter collections were well publicised. I for one looked on the internet. I think we have a case here where some residents want spoon-feeding.

"You can't please all the people, all the time......!"
However, here in Pershore, the binmen are better than any I have known - anywhere in the country!
On the dot - on the day...and all rubbish collected, with a smile! Brilliant!
Thanks, guys!
