Methadone addict lied to police - court

A METHADONE addict wasted police time by lying and repeatedly changing her story, a court heard.

Officers approached Jacqueline Corbett after her acquaintance, Michael Pouch, was caught using a invalid prescription at Boots Pharmacy in Worcester.

When interviewed Corbett, of Newport Street, Worcester city centre, denied knowing Mr Pouch or giving him a bottle of methadone that police found on his person.

At Worcester Magistrates Court Corbett admitted resisting/obstructing a police officer by giving them false information.

Sallie Hewitt, prosecuting, said: "She told officers she hadn't given him the prescription but did give him an optical prescription for spectacles.

"She said she'd given the methadone to Pouch as she was addicted and was drinking too much."

Brian O'Connell, defending, described Corbett as confused woman "not in good mind". He said she was long-term methadone addict and a chronic diabetic who takes a cocktail of legal drugs to help with depression and sleep problems.

"She now has help and guidance from her mother," added Mr O'Connell, inviting the District Judge to make her subject to a conditional discharge.

Agreeing, he gave Corbett an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £60 court costs.
