A NEW cash machine could be installed in Worcester despite councillor's concerns over the increased traffic it might create.
There was a heated debate among councillors about the machine at Costcutter in Ambleside Drive, Brickfields, Worcester, an area already plagued by high volumes of road traffic.
Despite this, planning permission for the ATM and two anti-ram bollards was granted by Worcester City Council's planning committee yesterday.
Local residents had complained about the application to ward councillors, stating parking was already a problem in the area.
They voiced concerns over the number of people who would drive to the shop just to withdraw cash, therefore increasing the amount of traffic in the area.
Labour Councillor Roger Berry said: "We are in danger of getting the local community disenfranchised and the community taking things into their own hands.
"The local community really think their voice is not being heard."
Councillor Mike Layland added: "We should respect the views of the people who have to live with it around the clock, I could not support this because enough is enough."
He added areas for parking in the area needed to be explored.
