PLUMES of black smoke could be seen billowing into the skies above Warndon, as firefighters tackled a blaze at Gtech.

Four Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service engines, three from Worcester and one from Droitwich were called to the scene at the battery power device assembly plant in Brindley Road, just after 12.30 today (Saturday, January 6).

On arrival firefighters found a large quantity of batteries ablaze and the building was severely smoke-logged.

The fire was on the external part of the building involving an extraction unit.

The blaze had damaged the cladding to the external part of the building.

Firefighters managed to isolate the fire and stop it spreading.

The service, who used four breathing apparatuses during the blaze, are now dampening down the area.

No one was hurt in the blaze. All staff had been evacuated before service arrived.
