A PRIMARY school’s environment is blooming, say judges.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Link Top, Malvern, has been presented with a Gold Award from Heart of England in Bloom judge Angela Pendleton.

Judging took place during a torrential rainstorm in July which failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the children, or the impact of their work on the judge.

Among the conservation projects she inspected were the planting of an Olympic rose, a jubilee oak and a wildflower meadow.

The judges were also impressed by the recycled solar fountain, made from an old dustbin and hundreds of bottletops.

Head Ann-Marie Wallbank said: “Caring and creatively improving the school’s grounds in a sustainable way is continuing concern for the school and its community.

“Having our efforts rewarded in this way is something of which we all feel very proud.”
