Man questioned over burglary series Man questioned over burglary series

A WORCESTERSHIRE man is being questioned in relation to a series of burglaries after he was arrested and charged for other offences.

The man in his 30s and from Worcestershire was arrested and charged with unrelated crimes over the weekend.

He appeared before Worcester Magistrates yesterday morning and was released into the custody of West Mercia Police rather than the prison service, so he can be questioned by officers about the recent burglaries in Droitwich.

He was transferred to Worcester Police Station at 7pm yesterday and detectives have three days to question him.

Detectives have linked a series of 12 burglaries that have occurred at homes in Droitwich since the beginning of September and last week released an e-fit of a man they wish to speak to about the offences.

The burglaries have mostly taken place in the residential areas between Ombersley Way and The Holloway.

As part of the ongoing Citadel initiative to tackle burglaries in dwellings, West Mercia Police launched an operation in an attempt to stop the series.

Detective Inspector Richard Rees said: "We have been putting a lot of effort into tackling this recent series in Droitwich and have gathered together a lot of information and evidence. We want to put some of this to the man we have in custody.

"I would like to repeat my appeal for anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area between Ombersley Way and The Holloway in recent weeks to contact us on the non-emergency police number 101."
