THE people’s votes have been collected, sorted and counted and it can now be exclusively revealed that the chosen name of the county’s newest landmark is...Dillon the Bull.

Earlier this year, we launched a competition with Andy Probyn, landlord of the Bull Inn, Fernhill Heath, near Worcester, to name the pub’s newest regular, a cast iron bull.

The bull is pinned to the ground outside the pub, and has been a talking point for passing motorists and visiting drinkers.

Youngsters at nearby Hindlip CE First School were on hand to supply possible names for the bull, along with coloured drawings of their very own bulls.

Their 21 entries – including the pictures – were published in the Worcester News, with potential names ranging from Beefy and Benny to the less concise Duke Theodore of Fernhill.

Our readers were then asked to vote for their choice – and duly elected Dillon after hundreds of people texted in.

Winning youngster Grace Kasch, aged six, picked the selected name and is set to receive a book token from Mr Probyn for her efforts.

Mr Probyn said: “It isn’t the name I was expecting – but I like it!

“I might get a brass plaque to hang around his neck, so everyone knows what to call him.

“We’re also going to make a framed display of all the entries and hang that in the pub for all to see. It will last forever then.”

Grace said: “I chose the name Dillon because I read it in a book and it’s a good name for a boy bull.

“I liked drawing it and colouring it black and brown.”

Headteacher Carolyn Tew said: “As a village school, our place in the community is very important to us and the children get a lot out of working alongside our neighbours and local businesses.

“All the children enjoyed taking part in the competition and were very excited in assembly when the winner was announced.”

Great to see a pub landlord taking pride in his pub. To many pubs are just bland and boring.
