FRONTLINE: Paul Harding plays a wounded soldier and Helen Lee is nurse Florence Nightingale (43160601)
A LIGHT will be shone on the lady with the lamp and the Crimean War on Saturday.
Re-enactors from Discover History will be showing the squalid hospital conditions soldiers faced during the war and the improvements made by nurse Florence Nightingale.
Paul Harding said the event at the Worcester Soldier Exhibition in Worcester City Gallery and Museum, Foregate Street. would give a good insight into both military and medical history.
Mr Harding said: “As well as being able to be expertly guided through the soldier museum, visitors will also get a hands-on look at a hospital before and after Florence Nightingale’s involvement.”
People will be able to see the depressing state of the hospital before Florence Nightingale and handle weapons and equipment.
They will then visit a second hospital which showed the improvements. Mr Harding explained the city’s link with the Crimean War in which the 95th Regiment of Foot fought before joining the 45th regiment to become the Sherwood Foresters, now 2nd battalion Mercian Regiment.
The event will take place between 11am and 3pm. Entry is free.
