A HERD of Gloucester Old Spot pigs will be taking up residence at a pub which is set to open on Thursday.

Chris and Lynne Burton have begun renovations at the Plough and Harrow at Guarlford, Malvern, including welcoming the two sows, a boar and two wieners.

However, the couple will be trying not to get too attached to the pigs as they will form part of the signature dishes at the pub.

Mr and Mrs Burton have bought the pub as well as land adjacent to it, formerly Tan House Nursery, where they also plan to create a market garden.

Mr Burton will be putting his skills as a master butcher to good use while the pub’s dishes will feature produce from the gardens.

He said: “We are following the slow grow process using everything that is in season and using as many things from the garden as we possibly can.”

The decision to take on the Plough and Harrow, which has been closed since the end of February, helped the Malvern couple realise a lifetime dream.

Renovations are ongoing and will feature artwork from local artists on the wall as well as the pigs, pony and geese in the gardens.

Doors will open at 12.30pm on Thursday and people will get the chance to try a sample menu.

I'm surprised that none of our rural friends has pointed out that "wieners" are German sausages and that the word needed is "weaners"

Certainly will be good to see it open again. Malvern has lost far too many pubs in recent years.
