THE SOUND of handbells were ringing out at a Guide meeting to honour a helper who had passed away.

Girls from 25th Worcester Guides were taught how to use the instruments by Hallow Handbell Ringers as they worked toward their Bluebell Challenge.

The unit is creating the Bluebell Challenge badge in honour of mother-of-three Alison Regan, Guide helper who passed away from cancer in July. Mrs Regan used to ring bells with Hallow Handbell Ringers.

The the Bluebell Challenge badge, named after Alison’s Guide nickname, will raise money for Cancer Research UK. The girls were taught to play popular songs such as Bobby Shafto.

Caroline Hallam, Alison’s friend and the unit’s guider, said: “They thoroughly enjoyed it and, except for Alison’s daughter Nicola, it was the first time they had given it a go.”

The unit will be offering a present wrapping service in Bell Square in CrownGate shopping centre, Worcester, during the Victorian Fayre to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
