ON THE BEAT: Sergeant Edd Williams (42158602)
WORCESTER’S newest local police sergeant may be new to the role – and the city itself – but he is keen to make an impact in the community he serves.
Sergeant Edd Williams has been named as the man who will temporarily lead the Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Warndon, Warndon Villages, Gorse Hill (including Tolladine), Nunnery (including Ronkswood) and Rainbow Hill.
Born and bred in Hereford, Sgt Williams knows he has a lot to learn about the area but is looking forward to reaping the rewards.
He said: “I lead a very successful team, a very positive team. I’ve been in the post for three weeks so I’m getting to know the area, members of staff and members of the public whom I have met while out on patrol.
“I’m very excited. I’ve got a lot to learn but I think it will be a very busy area, a challenging area, but also a very rewarding area for myself and the members of the public who live and work there.”
As previously reported in the Worcester News, Sgt Williams has been an officer with West Mercia Police for nearly 10 years and was previously a response sergeant in Herefordshire for more than three years.
He is scheduled to be in the post for six months and is keen to emphasise the importance of community engagement.
“I’m really keen to listen to what members of the public have to say about what the police can do better.
“We’re keen on feedback to get better and improve.
“We also need to know what’s going on. The police are only as good as the information we get.
“We need to work together with our key partners to establish the problems in our area and what we’re going to do about them.”
Sgt Williams also reassured the public that, despite recent reports, uniformed policing is still very important to West Mercia and the local community.
“I would encourage any member of the public who has concerns to contact us.
“People should be reassured that we still have 24/7 response policing throughout Worcestershire and always will have.”

What happened to old style policing, when bobbies stayed on the same patch for years, not weeks ?
Warndon has had at least 3 different beat sergeants over the past year, and none of them have changed anything. Nice bit of spin though, West Mercia.

Or is it the usual "nothing to do we me mate, that's the council" cop-out we always get these days?
