No one seems to care. It's just so heartbreaking

A FAMILY of five have been left without any possessions as a result of the problems at Guardian Self Storage.

Claire Bagshaw and her family were advised to use the company by Worcester City Council after becoming homeless.

They have now been allocated a new home by the council, but have no belongings to put in it.

“It is just so upsetting,” said Mrs Bagshaw, of Walnut Avenue, Brickfields.

“We knew we would be moving again quickly so I thought it best to put all my photos, children’s excess toys and furniture all in storage to save it getting damaged in the move. The council had told us this was a reputable company.”

After six weeks Mrs Bagshaw had received no invoice for money from the council and contacted them to find out what was happening. She was informed they too had not been invoiced and would investigate.

“Two weeks later I read about them in your paper,” said Mrs Bagshaw. “No one seems to care. It is heartbreaking. The council do not seem to have any responsibility to us even though they suggested them. It is completely unacceptable.”

Worcester City Council said they were trying to find out more about the company, which was selected to provide removals and storage after a competitive procurement exercise and supplier checks in December 2009.

A spokesman said: “We fully understand Claire Bagshaw’s anxiety and are very sorry this situation has arisen. We will continue to offer support until it is resolved.”
