Update - 9.30am: Police say the incident occured after the car, a silver Peugeot 206, collided with a lamp post.
The driver, an "elderly" male, has been taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in a "critical" condition.
Passers-by removed the man from the car and administered first aid before ambulance crews arrived and took over.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said it is likely the road will remain closed "for some time" as the wreckage is cleared and an investigation carried out.
A MAN has been rushed to hospital after a car flipped on to its roof in Henwick Road, St Johns.
Police and the ambulance service rushed to the incident, near the entrance to Worcester University, at about 8am.
The road has been closed off and traffic is being diverted through the university campus.
The air ambulance was also called and touched down just inside the university gates. However it was not required and took off again shortly before 8.30am.

Poor chap I hope he's okay, although as someone pointed out recently, with all those student nurses around that's not a bad area to have an accident.
