A MOTORIST who became trapped in deep water after he drove into a flooded ford in Pershore had to be rescued by firefighters this morning.

The man was found stood on the roof of his car when crews from Pershore and the water rescue boat from Evesham attended Walcot Ford in Walcot Lane just after 9.10am.

The crew entered the water and walked the 3.8 metre rescue boat to the stranded man, gave him a life jacket to wear and he climbed aboard. He was safely back on dry land by 9.35am.

Crew Commander Richard Young, from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Thankfully the man was not injured in any way but incidents of this nature do have the potential to be very serious, and we would urge motorists to take note of the height indicators near fords and avoid driving through water that appears deeper than normal.”
