County films on show at festival

THE county’s first film festival will take place in Worcester this weekend.

The Worcestershire Film Festival will celebrate the best the county has to offer from local film-makers, animators and writers.

Starting at 6.30pm tonight, the festival’s opening gala at the Hive will include short films from local film makers, a showcase and a panel question and answer session.

Tomorrow, the festival will be showing some of the entries competing for the best film award at the end of the festival on Sunday.

The day will also include a number of workshops and a talk from Hollywood storyboard artist Tony Chance, who has worked on films including Mission Impossible.

The day will end with a screening of local film maker Ben Lewis’s Who Do You Love? The King Adora Story about the local rock band and their rise and fall.

On Sunday, the winner of the best film award will be announced.

Festival organiser Simon Munn said: “We are absolutely bursting with excitement.

“There are so many talented film makers in this county of ours and we can’t wait to show you all of the brilliant films they’ve made.”

One of the films to be shown during the festival is In Dreams by animator Emily Currie, from Welland, near Malvern.

Miss Currie went to Hanley Swan High School and studied stop motion animation at the University of Glamorgan.

In Dreams was made in her parents’ house and took eight months to complete.

She said: “The concept of this animation is chasing something you want in your dreams.”

In Dreams will be shown at the Hive at 2.30pm on Sunday.
