THE charity-minded entrepreneur behind one of the world's biggest security businesses will be awarded an honorary degree today.

Nils Jorgen Philip-Srensen created Group 4 Securicor, based on the Farncombe Estate near Broadway, which now employs 415,000 staff in 100 countries.

The Swedish-born businessman has founded the Farncombe Estate Adult Learning Centre to help encourage lifelong learning.

Courses it offers include art history and art appreciation, food and wine tasting and language courses.

Mr Philip-Srensen is also chairman of the environmentally-friendly cleaning products giant Ecover.

He is a personal supporter of the Save the Children Fund and the Foundation for Liver Research, and a founder member of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

University of Worcester vice chancellor Professor David Green said: "We're delighted to recognise Nils' outstanding global entrepreneurship and the thousands of jobs he has created in Worcestershire and the wider region.

"In addition, Nils' practical environmental work, his dedication to the well-being of children and his promotion of lifelong learning are all causes which the university's members strongly support."
