WITH bonfire night fast approaching, residents in the counties have been urged to have fun but to keep safe.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has warned that fireworks cause hundreds of avoidable injuries each year.
Chris Blake, group manager for community safety said: "By taking just a few simple precautions you can greatly reduce the risks to yourself and your family.
"I would urge everyone to ensure that bonfires are sited well away from properties, sheds, fences, trees and hedges. Do not use accelerants such as petrol to start your bonfire as this can be extremely dangerous.
"It is worth noting that sparklers burn at temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees centigrade so always follow the Firework Safety Code. At the end of your celebrations ensure your bonfire has been properly extinguished.
