A WORCESTER man admitted driving away after hitting another car in a supermarket car park.

Anthony Williams, aged 50, of Otley Close, damaged a Vauxhall Corsa parked next to his BMW in the car park of Tesco, Millwood Drive, Warndon Villages, Worcester, on March 7.

Samantha Webley, prosecuting, said: “The woman had parked her car on the passenger side in the same direction.

"An eyewitness said he reversed into the car, actually lifting it of the ground then reversed properly and drove off without checking for any damage.

"There was a scrape and a dent in the driver’s side of the Corsa.”

The court was told that during interview Williams said he had seen the car and as he started to pull away his steering was at a lock.

He claimed to have got out of the car and checked but he couldn’t understand why the car was so close or why it had been parked there because there were lots of other spaces.

Mark Lister, defending, said: “His car was much larger then the other although he acknowledges he did strike it.”

He accepted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop and failure to report the accident and was given five penalty points.

He was also fined £370 and ordered to pay £60 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
