THIS sorry-looking hound is Lily, the hairless shar pei.

She was handed over to the Worcester & Mid-Worcestershire RSPCA Branch by her previous owner, who had herself rescued the dog, but was then unable to meet the substantial vet bills.

Unfortunately, ‘Lily the Pink’ has lost all of her fawn-coloured fur due to a much earlier period of neglect by an unknown owner and is now on antibiotics for a skin infection, and must take specially medicated baths once every two days.

RSPCA branch trustee Geraldine Haynes said although usually the charity would seek new homes for its charges as soon as possible.

In this case, it will take “months” to get Lily back to health. She is asking for people who can spare money to make a donation to the branch and help meet the estimated £2,000 cost of the vet bills.

“She is a lovely dog,” she said. “She’s only three and has already had four litters, and whoever had her prior to her being rescued has sold the puppies on but never sought veterinary treatment for Lily.

“The vets have had to do all sorts of tests to narrow down the problem.

“She is getting a thin covering of fur back, but what we really need is help to pay her bills.”
